Location: Grand Bazaar, Istanbul, Turkey; Material: Silver & Ceramic
Many people believe that tulips originally came from the Netherlands, but they actually came from Turkey. In fact, Istanbul (Turkey’s most famous and most visited city) is nicknamed “the city of flowers” because of all of its flower art (made from real flowers!) and beautiful tulip-blooming season in April. This is why you often see flowers in Turkish art and on ceramic tiles, which adorn many of the public places-including metro stations-in Istanbul. This ceramic piece happens to be in a ring form. I bought it this past September (2014), when I was traveling with my friend Grace, which was the first time I had been to Turkey. I have been back once already, and I hope to make it back sometime during this beautiful tulip season!
