Senegalese Stones

FullSizeRender(2)

Location: Sandaga Market, Dakar, Senegal; Material: Bead (Plastic) & Stone

I purchased this necklace a few weeks ago in the market at the center of Dakar, Senegal, which is called Sandaga Market.  After shopping around for a while and purchasing various Senegalese fabrics, a salesman took my friend Katelyn and I to his friend’s jewelry stall, and we found these Senegalese-made costume pieces (they were also selling very similar ones from Mali).  As I have mentioned in past articles, chunky necklaces like the above are not normally my style (I am more of a simple pendant kind of girl), but I decided to buy this because it was made in Senegal, the design is truly African, and I think that the stones is absolutely stunning. So far, I have been wearing it a lot while here!
